auto_Make-1995_Toyota_4Runner ccollings02 7400.0 1201651200 4.0 i bought my 1995 4runner used in 2005 at that point it was 10 years old and had 112k miles on it i have had it for 25 years or so and it has been a great vehicle i bought the car so i could have more room fit more people and take it skiing camping and climbing it has taken on everything i have thrown at it this winter we have had more snow than usual and up to a foot of snow on the roads at times when other cars could not leave their homes my 4runner has gotten me everywhere i needed to go i ski nearly every weekend and it is the perfect ski car there is lots of cargo space for all my toys i fit my kayak in the back and even sleep in the back when i have to i could rave about it all day but here are my opinions on what could be improved leg room in the back lacks a road trip with 4 guys can be long if longlegged i have the 30 v6 engine and even that can lack especially when pulling a trailer my fuel economy averages about 15 mpg in town and 18 mpg on the highway maintenance has been mostly regular and no real surprises in addition to the regular lof i have replaced the brakes and tires the relay rod was recalled in 2006 and replaced on toyota i did have to replace the radiator and starter but no other surprises like i said my 4runner has been a great vehicle and i have no complaints about it i will drive this one until it dies which i figure will be another 100k miles or so it has 148k now i love it and recommend the 4runner to anyone looking for a reliable vehicle who likes to play in the outdoors list of features 30 v6 engine no problems only regular maintenance i did need to add about a quart of oil between oil changes but since ive switched to a synthetic high mileage it has not been a problem automatic transmission good not as responsive as a sports car but does just fine no problems with climbing with overdrive off power windows no issues power door locks only issue is passenger side front door lock occasionally does not respond to power controls havent had it looked at probably just a loose connection cloth seats only wear showing is on drivers seat left side lip of seat from getting in and out actual seat show no wear lumbar support in drivers seat is adequate after market cd playerstereo stock speakers no problems no blow speakers but i dont play my music so everyone on the block can hear it ac works wonderfully even in hot dry 100 degree summers heat defrost warms up quickly and clears windshield at an average rate rear seat heater comes out of the center console and to my knowledge works well i rarely sit in the back seat i always want to drive no problems with rear defrost while were at the rear window i love that the glass retracts into the rear door it makes for better air flow with the windows open sun roof works well no issues power mirrors work with no problems i did have to replace the drivers side mirror as it was broken when i bought it from some kid taking a bat to it and the switch was a breeze dashboard has held up well and not warped or discolored over this past summer i did have one crack develop right above the drivers information console but just filled it with a vinyl filler steering wheel is starting to show signs of wear at the 10 and 2 oclock positions if there are any other specific questions you have please dont hesitate to ask

they are not as safe as people make them to be and they handle so sluggishly however when i sat behind the wheel of my sisters toyota 4runner i couldnt help but reevaluate my stance on suvs features 710 the 1995 4runner sr5 is the base model for the sr5 series it didnt come with that many options standard options include a 4cylinder engine 5speed transmission abs power steering power rear window skid plates defrosters and center console air conditioning is frosty and defoggers do the job quickly without leaving annoying traces amfm with cassette player comes standard but my sister has a 6cd changer the sound system is adequate though pale compared to a real sound system not much to get excited about in this category comfort 810 time to build up some excitement the interior includes a standard dash cluster speed tach fuel trip odometer cupholders center console velour cloth seats all wrapped up in an ash gray color the ride is quiet and there are no rattles five people can comfortably sit inside the vehicle in fact they can go ahead and stretch their legs out there is so much space inside this suv the cargo room alone holds 78 cubic feet of space this baby can handle those home depot freight runs like nothing all of this makes for a reasonably comfortable ride however there are a few things that irk me one the driver side seats are pretty high im 58 but i still stretch myself out even with the seat in the middle position on the rails i just push the seat all the way forward and pull it back about 15s of the way and that would be my comfort spot also the cupholders tend to get in the way of the shifter this doesnt bother me since i tell everyone to put their drinks on their laps just a minor setback aside from those two you can sleep in this car it is that comfortable engine 910 under the hood is a 24 liter 4cylinder engine that produces a surprising amount of power you may not expect much out of a smallsized engine that produces only 116 hp but you will definitely feel the 140 footlb of torque the 4runner produces so much torque its actually easy to squeal the tires from standstill weve never tried towing a trailer to the suv but weve put plenty of weight before when my sister moved to her new house a few years ago this thing can still haul after loading it down with nearly 800 lbs of extra weight if 4cylinder model is this deceptively powerful i can only imagine how the v6 performs naturally this car guzzles gas at a high rate i averaged 21 miles on the highway then again thats expected of a suv good thing most of them use regular gas powertrain 810 the 4wd drivetrain is mated with a standard 5speed transmission though you can have a 4speed automatic for a little extra if you want to have lots of fun with this baby stick with the manual tranny shifting is smooth and precise the shifter really sticks into position when you get it in gear its not all loosey goosy like some cars so shifting is relatively effortless the clutch is rather high though the first gear on this one can be difficult to get used to ive held up my share of traffic on my first few goarounds in the 4runner once youve mastered it everything else is childs play the clutch does make a slight squeaky noise when you depress it sometimes but this has occurred only recently and a checkup may remedy this minor annoyance the whole system really keeps you glued to the road you can take sharp corners at high speed and not feel like youre about to tip over the wide track seems to make the care more stable than some other suvs well done handling 810 again this truck really sticks to the road its very stable so it doesnt feel like youre going to tip over if you take a sharp corner too fast then again the 4runner doesnt turn on a dime which is okay since id prefer added stability for an suv the suspension is quite stiff so there tends to be some jarring and jostling on really rough roads sometimes it gets so intense that my sister uses the sedan when shes pregnant aside from this the ride quality and performance is smooth and stable reliability 1010 wow toyota really knows how to make their cars last in the many years my sister has owned this vehicle she said she never had to take the suv to the shop for a major repair aside from typical oil pads and belt replacements nothing vital ever needed repair who knows what makes this car so versatile perhaps its made of adamantium i doubt you will ever have to take out a mortgage to fix something expensive like a distributor just dying on you for no reason in this car this one has over 140000 miles on it and everything except the tires oil and the timing belt are original parts safety 910 as long as you follow all the rules of the road the 4runner will get you there effortlessly driver and passenger srs comes standard other safety options include child locks and doublerestraint safety belts if something were to hit this im sure the other guy would suffer more damage than you would this is one tough truck value 910 my sister bought this brand new for almost 23000 these models are pretty expensive but you really get the most out of your money you get such a remarkable vehicle in the deal if youre thinking of getting a used 95 sr5 a similar model in good condition should be less than 9000 you might even find some as low as 5500 if you find a really good one you auto_Make-1995_Toyota_4Runner hedsouth 11000.0 1030406400 4.0 this is my second used 4 runner of the exact same model engine tranny the first 4runner i had was absolutely amazing bought it used with 80000 miles on it and never had a single major problem until i rolled it with 120000 this included harsh cross country driving in the deep south and 115 degree dallas heat then back up the eastern seaboard to philadelphia a quick note about safety i rolled this truck going about 40mph did a total 360 broke almost every piece of glass and destroyed every panel on the truck how was i 2 stitches in my elbow thats it now for the nitty gritty boring details of the toyota 4runner of this vintage pros amazingly reliable and rugged great shift on the fly 4 wheel drive ac system does not rob too much engine power comfortable high way cruiser also being one of the larger vehicles height wise visibility is excellent ventilation is great 4 power windows power rear window most with huge sunroof rear cargo area is quite expansive with the rear seats folded down makes and excellent sleeper cons these 4runners 9195 are plagued with head gasket issues if the one you are looking at never had it replaced stay away or look into possible hidden dealer warranty this v6 3l is a dog even with the ect power on and the overdrive off dog slow like i get out and push when merging on busy interstates from uphill ramps but dont let this scare you off the cup holder blocks the heating and venting controls
auto_Make-1995_Toyota_4Runner tntg 12500.0 989712000 4.0 i love my wife she talked me into getting a 4runner i was a jeep man my first jeep an 89 wrangler caught on fire soon after that i got a 90 wrangler it spent months in the shop so i sold it to my motherinlaw then it was to japan ive had my fill of american autos for a 1995 nissan pathfinder le that was nice only it looked like most other suvs boxy and cookiecutter common so for our next suv my wife begged i like it when she begs for a 4runner as always i gave in and we bought a 1990 4runner at an isuzu dealer for 560000 now that 4runner is known for its oil leaks and ours had a bad oil leak so i sold it for 750000 that was cool and that made it possible for us to purchase this 1995 4runner that we plan to keep for a very long time from what ive been able to gather the sleek looks are a plus for the ladies better than a mini van but not so big as to scare them off easy to drive with good visibility for the men she is beefy and with the 4x4 a competent and smooth ride off road in a nut shell the 4runner should be able to meet any and all of your needs this is even more true if you have kids but thats another story
auto_Make-1995_Toyota_4Runner xxxpaulaxx 10000.0 1009584000 5.0 i bought my 4runner used over 2 years ago and i am absolutely thrilled with it i needed a bigger vehicle so i sold my reliable civic and went the suv route i have had all the regular maintenance done on the 4runner and have had no problems with it at all it is extremely reliable the interior is very basic and the seating is not quite as roomy as one might expect when viewing the outside of the vehicle however it will seat 5 average sized people comfortably hey its a truck not a luxury sedan the radio climate controls dash wipers lights etc are all easily found and operated you can even control the back window while driving if desired the cargo area is excellent i have been able to transport 25 televisions huge stacks of bricks strollers and groceries etcetc my one and only complaint about the interior is that the cupholders sit directly in front of the center air vents and if there are drinks placed there than it is nearly impossible to adjust the climate controls unless you have a great memory and remember which knobs adjust what not to mention the air vents are blocked driving a 4runner makes you feel like you own the road especially after being in a lowtotheground honda civic i feel very in control in my 4runner and my range of vision is great the truck drives very well though even with a v6 and power button it still is just a tad sluggish thats to be expected though with this size vehicle also dont expect it to handle tight like a regular sedan the center of gravity is quite high on this vehicle so hugging the curves is a little more difficult or maybe dangerous the exterior of the 4runner is very stylish not boxy at all like some of the other suvs and not minivanlike at all either the 4runner can be a little expensive at retail but i bought mine for a real deal and am 100 satisfied i plan to drive it til it dont drive no more
auto_Make-1995_Toyota_4Runner shadowtc 15000.0 1079913600 4.0 i had never driven a foreign vehicle before 1995 nor had i ever driven a truck or suv the concept of buying a suv was new to me and i really wasnt sure what to expect i am not a cartruck enthusiast and really probably wouldnt appreciate the differences between make and model to me a vehicle is something that gets me to point a to b in this purchase i did have one stipulation it had to be standard transmission i had test driven several north american makes and models at the time none of the dealers could offer a suv with a standard transmission the sticker price of suvs seemed on the high side although it was in 1996 when the suv prices really skyrocketed not impressed with what i was seeing i walked on to a toyota lot there it was a brand new 1995 4runner with standard transmission no bells no whistles cloth interior no power locks or windows i like to refer to my 4runner as the welfare model best of all the price was right after a tradein the model is a 4 cylinder 5 speed sr5 24 liter engine it is not the best engine for a suv and as such limits the payload to only 400lbs however i have hauled a trailer without incident arguably the 4 cylinder also shows its limitations on uphill climbs i have found myself in second or third gear on inclines both on highways and off road though the 4 cylinder has served me well i will definitely get a 6 cylinder next time i have had very little problems with the engine i have had however a head gasket and a cylinder replaced they blew out at 155000 kms and considering the 4 cylinder engine what i have hauled it was bound to happen i would not fault toyota on this incident the 4 wheel drive is great it offers two settings 4 high and 4 low both settings are change on the fly a change to 4 high can be achieved at speeds up to 50 mph the clutch does not have to be engaged a change to 4 low can still be done on the fly but at lower speeds below 10 mph and the clutch has to be engaged 4 low gives extra traction to get out of deep snow mud or areas when all 4 wheels are not touching the surface the 4 wheel drive is excellent in snow if you remember that 4 wheels can skid just as easily as 2 if on icy surfaces i am impressed with the gas mileage it is not the gas guzzler that most suvs are made out to be i do not know the exact mileage i get but when i compare it to the 1990 sunbird i used to drive the 4runner costs me only another 500 per week give or take a few dollars for fluctuating gas prices the major fault of the 4runner is that the tailgate is prone to rust the space between the rear window and the tailgate is only protected by a thin rubber molding which easily allows water to seep in between i live in a very rust prone area and most 4runners in this area have rust on the tailgate the rest of the vehicle does not seem to rust the tailgate is the only problem area i enjoy this vehicle i am now at 215000 kms and apart from the one engine problem and the one rust area the vehicle is in great shape i plan to drive it until it dies the way it is going i will get another 10 years out of it i hope i feel comfortable driving it not because of its size or stature but because it is comfortable to drive due to the very high cost of new suvs i am not sure if i will be able to afford to buy another new one however i would not hesitate to recommend a 4runner to anyone who is considering buying one
auto_Make-1995_Toyota_4Runner mjc2000 30000.0 981331200 5.0 my dad has owned this truck since 1995 and talk about iron clad a true testimonial to its fine performance was illustrated in summer of 2000 when my dad hit someone broad side at an intersection in my home town the other car was totalled my dads truck was hardly touched and he was able to drive it home like nothing happened now that is tough talk about towing strength too we have towed out two seadoo watercrafts with this baby and it was just like normal driving no heavy engine noises just 100 completely carefree some of the features i like about my dads truck are the rear windshield spoiler which he bought as an added feature it keeps the back windshield totally clean all the time the back windshield retracts by key or by a button in the middle console of the car a neat feature is the cargo cover that matches the vehicles interior and covers all your cargo in the back of the truck i find this is an awesome feature for antitheft purposes the back seats push forward to extend your cargo space for lumber etc this is very cool for skis in the winter too the one thing i like the most about the 4 runner is its style it just looks good from every angle i consider other car companys versions namely the chevy blazer dodge durango jeep cherokee nissan pathfinderetc just dont compare in overall look to this industry leader ours is an 8cylinder 4wd standard and it is surprisingly good on gas mainly because we chose standard transmission it looks sporty and is very powerful i would recommend this truck to anyone that craves the sports car of the suvs

auto_Make-1995_Toyota_4Runner ebaztec 14000.0 1020038400 5.0 i think the first thing that should be said is if you want a minivan or sedan you shouldnt buy an suv too many people want an suv they can drive on the freeway then complain that it doesnt handle like a sedan or accelerate like a sports car this 4runner wasnt created to hall soccer balls and cheerleaders this year 4runner is a good mix of reliability durability and function i dont think it was ever intended to be a freeway racer or an economy commuter i bought my 95 4runner in 1997 from a dealer in oregon for 14k admittedly i spent some time 4 hrs wearing them down on the price but i was paying cash so i dont think they wanted me to leave i must also state that i actually went looking for a 4cyl model without power windows locks or a sunroof most people want all that stuff so a stripped 4cyl was hard to find for what i use my suv for i didnt want all the extras the only option i made sure to get was ac 4 wheelin in the american desert can get a little warm the power or lack thereof is still somewhat of an issue i have tried to find ways of beefingup the little 4 cylinder in order to eek out a few more horses but i just couldnt trade the reliability for the couple more horses you get with the same year 6 cylinder besides i heard from many sources that the 1995 6 cylinder had some problems with warping heads lastly ive hauled everything from people to tools to shrubbery in my 4runner and even towed another vehicle from oregon to utah it didnt do it very fast but i ran the ac all the way without so much as a millimeter of movement in the temperature guage 75k miles later it still doesnt use oil or blow smoke i also added a fold and tumble jeep seat to the cargo area for my kids to utilize its kinda like a minisuburban that seats 7 the vehicle had 70k miles on it when i got it i was told i was owner 2 the odometer now reads 161475 ive driven it ac blowing cold between oregon idaho colorado wyoming utah new mexico and california i have replaced the clutch and speedometer cable other than those items i have done nothing but oil changes tires and tuneups thats it i still drive it everyday and take it on long trips i trust it like an old friend to get me where im going that kind of reliability is worth twice what i paid for some one who doesnt part with his money easily there is no other vehicle for me
auto_Make-1995_Toyota_4Runner clemsontiger86 9000.0 1033257600 5.0 i bought my 1995 toyota 4runner used it handles very well and is in good shape there are a few problems with minor things though i have had one problem with the rear window i bought the car used and it came from illinois so there is alot of road salt on the road thus it got down in the tracks of the back window and rusted one of the tracks the track recently broke off when i was rolling down the back window i now have to replace that window the only other problem i have ever had with it is the installation of aftermarket speakers and cd player it is a pain to install anything as all toyotas make it hard to install to install an aftermarket cd player one must take the entire dash off to get to all the neccesary wiring all the dash pieces are interconnected to install the front speakers you must take the whole dash of except for the center piece the back speakers are even harder to install as one must take almost half the cars interior paneling off to get to the speakers other than these two problems the suv is a great vehicle it is very dependable and will last for a long time it handle great for a 4wd vehicle i am very happy with its performance
auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander Jena 27000.0 1029196800 4.0 when my lease was up on my 1999 toyota camry i honestly debated whether to turn it back in cause i really truly enjoyed this car i wasnt too thrilled about the new camrys slicker looks so i decided to go for a change and leased the highlander i really do like it but if you ever have owned a toyota camry and then go to the highlander the ride will not be the same i dont think anything out there in the 2030k range will come even close to the smoothness of a camry but i do enjoy my highlander it has the same base as a camry so it does ride similar the drivers window has an auto down and up control i love the auto up really is great and will be one of the things i look for on future vehicles lots of cargo room the back seat folds completely up and then also the seats recline which is rare in suvs i did not upgrade to the limited so i got the basic cdtaperadio and speakers compared to other vehicles ive owned the stereo is very weak so weak i just couldnt stand it for my 3 years in lease so had hubby insert new speakers on front back doors total spent on all 4 was about 150 bucks and it sounds amazingly different cripser and much better the factory speakers to me sounded about like my alarm clock lol all in all i recommend the highlander only if youve never owned a camry their hard to bet

auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander slynk 28000.0 1029024000 5.0 i am writing this review not from the view of a driver but as a passenger i am 6 feet 5 inches and extremely lanky i thought no car would ever fit my needs when it came to space the toyota highlander sure showed me i usually have trouble being comfortable in any car at all i do not like the giant suvs partially because they are awful for the environment and have terrible gas mileage but when i first rid in the toyota highlander i was amazed this car gets 19 miles to the gallon in the city and 24 on the highway thats more than some station wagons i was also perplexed by how an suv could be so small this car didnt take up two parking spaces but still left me with full leg room the trunk was slightly smaller which explained why i had so much leg room still i was amazed by this car the back seats reclined and i almost dozed off the car ran smoothly and as far as i could tell the braking was smooth and the engine quiet as far as driving the actual car goes you may want to consult other reviews but if you are a tall family or have kids who need space this is the perfect car for you
auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander chetldr 27000.0 1180569600 5.0 i bought this car after driving a luxury sedan on a lease for 4 years i have a large dog that needs some room to travel and required some space for moving residences and hauling some construction materials for some remodeling work i was doing i bought the 4x2 because to be honest i dont see me going offroading in it and wanted to keep an extra 1500 and get better gas mileage i dont recommend you do everything ive done with it but overall i can say its been the best vehicle ive owned it drives really well in all weather conditions and is easy to see in all directions a great family car for those who despise minivans although i get a lot of grief from people saying its not a truck like the 4runner its not as it drives like a car i do tell them however that i was able to tow a small dump truck out of the mud with italthough you wont see them tout it in any commercial anytime soonwrong marketi was on concrete but i still get a lot of doubters the drawbacks ive had with it is that you cant fit a sheet of drywall in it which would have been nice although 8 foot pieces of moulding will fit through to the front seat ok i have 2 carseats for my kids in the middle but unless you are a 20 inch waist or have no problem losing circulation in your lower extremeties its seating for 4 with those car seats without them its comfortable for 5 with a decent amount of room in the back but i wouldnt call it excessive by any means the gas mileage is as advertised and i get 25 on the highway on most trips and 1820 in the city the exterior is ok and the interior is ok but nothing special we didnt get the goofy spoiler because it really looks out of place on this vehiclelike racing stripes would work too not everything else is what you expect of toyota vehicles reliable to the core and not even a minor issue of any kind due to the manufacturing of the vehicle havent driven the new one but would like to test drive the hybrid probably wont need a new one for 10 more years and is the first vehicle ive driven that i havent been ready for a change after 3 years it was a bit pricey in the upper 20s but youll get it back in resale and reliability
auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander bartelby74 33300.0 1018310400 5.0 my other car is a 1997 camry and i think that the highlander is a smoother ride i love the fact that it doesnt feel like look like or drive like any other suv that i have driven the v6 is pretty fast the handling is very good not tipsy like every american suv feels the ride is very good at high speeds 80 mph however sometimes depending upon the road type it is a little more noisy than i would like getting into the car is great there is no step up and no slide down it is right at a comfortable level the front seats are comfortable but i wish that the passenger seat had an option for power seating i also would have liked a memory setting for the driver power seat so my wife and i could use it without adjusting from scratch whenever we switch cars for the day the mpg rating is average to poor at around 19mpg for me i think this is mostly due to the fulltime awd i felt limited by the options here although i live in the chicago area i would have prefered to get a 2wd model with all the other options leather power seats v6 etc however the option packages are very limited and you really end up having to choose from the 2 or 3 flavors that are available the rear seats are comfortable and they fold easily for carting stuff around town we just moved and it was very helpful i was a little disappointed with the weight allowance of the car around 900 lbs i think although the car has room for 5 adults most mixes of 5 people with a little luggage will exceed the 900 lbs limit and you can feel it as you drive i realize that most suvs are similarily limited with relatively low weight allowances but i was hoping for more i guess the controls like all toyotas are intuitive and easy to reach the inside of the car looks very sharp although i would have preferred a darker interior as the light cream color shows dirt pretty easily i wish there was some more storage space on the console and the storage space under the console is weird and isnt really useful for anything whatever you put there could easily roll out and go under the gasbrake pedals so i avoid putting anything there usually i listen to classical music or am radio so hearing the subtle sounds is important the road noise is usually very quiet but at high speeds sometimes it is bothersome it is still way better than the constant whine you hear with most other suvs but it is not as quite as a high end luxury car the trip computer is pretty neat and i use it often it tells you the avg mpg speed temperature etc lastly i am a little concerned about an article i read about problems with toyota 97 02 v6 engines that has caused an engine redesign some people claim that the oil can gunk up and cause engine problems i dont know what the deal really is but i have not personally experienced it yet toyota says the problem is avoidable by keeping up with oil changes but who knows there isnt much haggle room with this car due to low supply and high demand but it is worth the money in my opinion consumer reports rated the highlander higher than its lexus rx300 counterpart and for many thousands less if you read and trust cr like i do you cant argue with that this car just looks sharp and it is fun to drive this is my 3rd toyota and i see no reason to stop buying

auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander mshrockford 34000.0 1010361600 4.0 im an admitted automobile safety fanatic although ive never been personally involved in a serious automobile accident i understand that driving to and from work is likely to be the most dangerous task many of us perform each day to help minimize this risk ive developed a keen interest in my wife would say passion for advanced automotive safety systemsfeatures this is what led to my interest in the highlanders vehicle skid control vsc system the system claims to minimize skids by selectively applying braking or power reductions to wheels that are on the leading edge of a skid the system is also advertised as being able to sense impending wheel spin and to alert the driver via a beeping alarm to the potentially dangerous road conditions i was very intrigued by this new safety system so i recently test drove a 2002 toyota highlander equipped with vsc to see how the system performed on snowy icy michigan roads overall i was impressed with the highlanders performance on the slippery road conditions however the performance of the vsc was not as obvious as i had expected to test the vsc i took the vehicle to an empty parking lot with some fresh snow cover i accelerated to about 30 mph then turned the vehicle sharply to the left while the car initially tracked quite well it was only after the vehicle began to skid that the vsc alarm began to beep i repeated the test doing similar maneuvers and had similar results each time while it was very difficult to make the car skid it did skid slightly before the alarm triggered this was disconcerting to me since by the time the alarm sounded it was pretty obvious to me that the vehicle was in a skid in other words the alarm feature didnt give me any advance warning of the skid this is very unfortunate since i was quite enthusiastic about the possibility of the car being able to provide advance warning of potential skidding in my opinion the vsc does not provide this benefit to be fair to the vsc this was a very limited test and one that involved relatively low speeds in a more serious ie dangerous situations the performance of the vsc could be much more profound in short while the vsc is undoubtedly a valuable safety system it does not seem to effectively provide the early warning alarm that i had expected

auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander bravefanatic 29905.0 1031097600 5.0 well it was bound to happen my 1991 mazda b2200see my review finally had to have a major repair five days in the shop over labor day weekend well im not a very good homebody i need wheels a few calls and a trip to hertz later and i found myself in a 2002 highlander by toyota well if you are in the market for a midsize suv you would be a fool to pass on a test drive of this beauty let me get a few things out of the way first my highlander was a two wheel drive that came with a 220hp vvti dohc v6 engine one thing that shocked me was the fact that this was a front wheel drive suv i mean ive driven both rear and front wheel drive vehicles if youve driven both you know that in a rear wheel drive you are pushed and in a front wheel drive you are pulled which sometimes can be unpleasant on the joints because of the sudden pull on your body i could have sworn that the highlander was rear wheel drive im serious there was no front wheel jerk that you get with front wheel drive transaxles this is a major thing for me i mean a drive is supposed to be pleasant right under the hood is that 220 horse v6 man oh man plenty of power im talking about an engine not even breaking a sweat running at only 3000rpm while doing 81 mph im so used to being a bit underpowered that i found myself going almost 90 miles an hour several times by mistake if you were wondering about power there is no doubt you have enough with the v6 as far as the 4 cylinder goes you should test drive one first before buying dont buy a 4cyl on this recommendation the highlander handles like a dream superb power steering smooth yet it hugs the road like a worn pair of blue jeans just right mileage was so so but that may have been because i was driving like a speed freak i got maybe 18 mpg but i think it was closer to 17 or 16 mpg if not for the constant pedal tromping it would have been better i assure you interior was beautiful whoever coordinates the color schemes at toyota should get an award they have an amazing eye all my friends kept using words like tight beautiful and smooth to describe the interior diggs the drivers seat was 8 way power adjustable there was no position this thing could not conform to the sound system was surprisingly shallow it had great bass but seemed to have problems giving me the true surround sound effect that i enjoy this could be because of two reasons one hertz didnt bother to spring the extra bucks and went with the basic sound system or toyotas sound systems suck now before you blame hertz remember that for most of the 80s and 90s the japanese were notorious for building great cars with crappy sound systems if you wanted great sound you built it yourself keep this in mind when youre out shopping besides that the radio and ac controls were perfectly placed and were within easy reach seating was spacious and my one and only back seat passenger seemed quite comfortable the highlander seats five the seats can also be folded if need be flat for extra space ac is cold but to be truthful arent all of them cold now and last but not least the looks the highlander looks awesome i mean wow lest you not think this is not a big deal take a look at the 2003 ford expedition look real close it looks exactly the same as the 2002 ford explorer only bigger the jeep vehicles looks are boring and old nissans exterra looks just like the frontier pickup they make and the honda pilot though im sure the pilot is a wonderful suv it looks just like the crv only bigger whats wrong with these people cant they spend a little more and at least spice it up with different headlamps well suffice to say the highlander does not look like its siblings it is a bonafide suv hottie a head turner wherever you go the one problem that i had with my rental was that when i hit the unlock button on the keyless entry system for some reason the passenger side doors would not unlock i think this may have been related to this vehicle and not to all highlanders in general if you are a woman considering this suv you will enjoy the room the safety and the visual range the seating gives you if youre a man like me you will love the pure power of 220 horses and the stunning looks

a chevrolet buick pontiac or oldsmobile they all looked the same some current examples of closely related twinned vehicles include toyota camrylexus es300 ford taurusmercury sable gmc yukonchevy tahoe and the dodge grand caravanchrysler town country minivans in some cases it is painfully obvious which cars are twins in other cases even an expert would be hard pressed to see the similarities in previous decades twinned vehicles were little more than the same car with a different logo slapped on todays twinned vehicles are much more sophisticated in both their differences and similarities the toyota highlander is a new kind of twinned vehicle the contemporary term is platform sharing the term twin implies and identicalness that is simply not accurate when speaking of most modern cars or trucks with the notable exception of a few american brands the highlander shares its basic platform or chassis with a number of other toyota products the highlander is related however loosely to the 2001 toyota camry sienna minivan and of course the current lexus rx300 the rx300 is proof of just how successful and important platform sharing can be one of the great advantages to sharing platforms is that an automaker can use a well engineered car platform as a starting point for what will ultimately be a rather trucklike vehicle the highlander and rx300 are perfect examples of this as they both have a truck or suv like appearance and usefulness while maintaining many carlike attributes such as ride comfort smoothness and predictable handling like the rx300 the toyota highlander really shines in a few very important areas namely the previously mentioned ride and handling here is one of the few suvs that can truly brag about offering truck like versatility with car like manners it isnt that the highlander or even the rx300 is the best suv on the road its just so difficult to overlook it as a really good allaround car thats very easy to live with on a daily basis other than styling there are a few notable differences between the rx300 and highlander the rxs ride seems to be more tuned for comfort while the highlander has a bit stiffer feel this is especially noticeable during moderate to hard cornering although both vehicles handle incredibly well its the highlander that exhibits slightly less body roll through the corners on the open road the highlanders slightly firmer ride results in feeling more bumps and imperfections in the road also the jbl 6cd changer that is available on the highlander sounds better than the lexus premium system found in the rx300 mark levinson is not available in the rx300 one of the main advantages of the highlander is that it can be configured in many different ways the highlander offers the option of an inline4 or the same 220 hp v6 that powers the rx like the rx the highlander is available in 2 or 4wheel drive if youre looking to save money but still need the space and versatility and reliability of a toyota suv the highlander is the one for you a fully loaded highlander can easily cost just as much as a similarly equipped rx300 so you wont save any money there but the fact that the highlander can be ordered with fewer features and an optional 4cylinder engine if the buyer so wishes means a real savings of a few thousand dollars can be had a highlander limited 4x4 v6 with leather sunroof and vsc stability control has an msrp of just over 35000 cleary were in lexus territory at 35k plus but knock off the limited package heated seats and 4wheel drive and the sunroof and youll still be treated to lexus like quality and comfort at somewhat of a bargain price styling is subjective my personal preference with regard to styling is the lexus rx300s more round and slightly feminine look its true check the streets a lot of women drive rx300s that being said many people prefer the highlanders more chiseled and rugged styling the highlander looks more masculine more like a guys car both are goodlooking vehicles those that prefer cars will likely find the rx more appealing while those who consider themselves truck people will probably opt for the highlander and its more square look inside the highlander limited is a very luxurious environment wood grained trim is plentiful and in typical toyota fashion all knobs and switches are exactly where you expect the only interior complaint is that the radio volume knob is a similar size shape and color as the climate control adjustment for temperature the result is that one often turns the temperature down when the intent was to lower the radio volume and vice versa a high point inside the highlander is the reclining rear seats this is a luxury car feature found on such premium brands as cadillac toyota has seen fit to include it in the highlander and the less expensive rav4 rear seats are incredibly comfortable and offer more than ample legroom hip room and headroom expect three normal sized adults to ride in comfort rear seat space is one area in which the highlander tops the similar sized 4runner both offer plentiful cargo room but the highlander is a better choice if you plan to haul more people than stuff the highlanders 6040 rear seats fold all the way down with ease the highlander does not offer third row seating it is a 5passenger vehicle as mentioned earlier the highlander shares some mechanical components with other toyota products which may explain why it all works so well the 30l v6 offers more than adequate acceleration and as with almost every other toyota engine its smoothness and refinement are exceptional while the highlander limited is a comfortable travel companion around town especially in urban settings is where is does its best work the combination of a roomy interior and somewhat compact exterior dimension plus a powerful v6 makes the highlander the perfect commute and family errand running car its ability to fit into cramped parking lots and yet comfortably carry 5 adults is note worthy in a place like los angeles where everything seems to be crowded all the time and public parking is almost a luxury while it seems fair to say the highlander and lexus rx300 are very similar in many respects a lexus customer will have a dramatically different buying and subsequent service experience many toyota dealerships in southern california are crowded with salesmen so stereotypical they almost seem like a practical joke slicked back hair gold chains the 80s are over dude pinky rings silk ties and general disposition that has my wife refusing to even get out of the car even when we go just to buy windshield wiper refills we lease a toyota camry great car by the way contrast this to the near museum like setting of most lexus dealerships staffed by educated people who dont once seem to say what can i do to get you to but this car today the courtesy is extended to the service department as well toyota customers who spent 30000 45000 on a well equipped suv will be treated to the same 4 year old shuttle van as the rest of the 91 tercel owners lexus owners fare much better with a complimentary loan car in many cases as well as a swankier waiting area and expensive coffee sure many lexus vehicles cost in excess of 50000 but when cross shopping similarly priced suvs it seems worth noting overall the 2002 highlander is nothing more and nothing less than a practical wellbuilt carbased suv as with most toyota products it is possible to save money by cutting back on the options but add some common features and the price climbs quickly while very similar to the lexus rx300 the highlander offers some differences mostly styling handling and an extra money saving engine choice the good news is that even those who are looking to save a little cash on a highlander can still expect the same quality versatility and durability as that of other suvs costing much more

auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander sparki777 28000.0 1017964800 5.0 when my husband and 25yrold son were tboned in our 4runner last january we had to buy a new vehicle we were very happy with the way the 4runner held up in the accident no injuries even though it was totalled and since we know a great toyota mechanic we pretty much limited our options to toyota right away also even though we had been thinking about trading the 4runner for a corrolla or other normalsize car the accident taught us that being higher off the ground was a big safety plus if dh had been driving my corrolla instead he would have been killed because the other vehicle would have hit him in the side and shoulder instead of at the floorboard level we were impressed with the highlander right away it really feels more like a car than a truck in fact when we first bought it we had trouble not speeding on the interstate because the thing is so smooth you dont even realize youre going 80 mph the passenger area is roomier than the 4runner and quite comfortable big plus is the back seat with one toddler and a baby on the way we needed more room for carseats and the highlander is made to accommodate them tether system is standard too we also like the size of the cargo bay even though it is a little smaller than the 4runner this thing is loaded with safety features that we can really appreciate i always feel safe in this vehicle and i believe my kids will be too even in a serious accident like my husband went through last january the only disappointment was that we wanted one with a charcoal interior but we couldnt wait long enough to get one due to the insurance settlement thing still happy with the basic package we got even if the interior is buffcolored and shows more dirt
auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander p27rpy 32000.0 1092960000 4.0 the highlander is great for those who want the suv look but hate the traditional suv ride built on the toyota camrys platform this suv delivers a soft quiet carlike ride for everyone in it it is also lower to the ground than most suvs which could be a pro or a con depending on personal tastes its 220hp v6 provides more than ample power for me but i felt that it fell short in matching the honda pilots performance numbers the soft suspension has its drawbacks however those wanting a great handling ride will be disappointed as the soft struts make body roll very evident my opinion on the suspension varies with my mood when i want to drive fast its a little unsteady when i want to take it easy though theres nothing better also the stock goodyear integrity tires only provide decent grip and they will spin easily if you get on the throttle it is a great family car as well with a very spacious backseat which independently reclines there are cupholders everywhere to hold drinks as well the 6 speaker jbl sound system has a 6 cd changer and sounds great with nearly every type of music one personal complaint is that the rear window does not go down my previous suv a 1999 toyota 4 runner had this feature which i found very useful the highlander has been a good car to me these past few years and has delivered with most anything ive asked it to do all the amenities are there and ready to help i would recommend this car to the person who is willing to sacrifice a little performance for comfort
auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander adelinahay 24000.0 1054598400 4.0 i was very excited about buying this my first suv but i wish i would have taken more time to look into the space and safety features i have a baby and though i have owned many toyotas and really appreciate their quality i believe toyota should have put the new latch system for carseats in before it was required by all car manufacturers by law in september of 2002 also i was disappointed with the true amount of storage space in the cargo area and the bottom of the front seats come down so low to the floorboards that it is difficult to retrieve items that may have slid under the seats always an issue with small children the ride is smooth on the freeways and visibility straight ahead is very good it is a little difficult to see past the front seats when checking over your shoulder when backing up etc also when driving on the freeway there is a roll to the suv when cornering the on and off ramps that is somewhat uncomfortable overall i am happy with the highlander but would probably not lease another one unless some of these features had been changedi also dont like the color scheme of the interior mine is a tan with a herring bone type pattern and feel like they could do a better job with the quality and color choice considering the price of the vehicle
auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander reynard4 24000.0 1027555200 5.0 my wife and i wanted something a little more practical than our tacoma 4x4 to haul our 2year old around in we wanted to stay under 25k so we started our search with the saturn vue and the toyota rav4 the vue was nice but there were a number of niggling issues mainly quality relatedsee review elsewhere on epinions that left doubts in my mind and the rav4 was just too small after testing the rav4 the toyota salesrep mentioned the highlander but most on the lot were loaded and priced well over 30k so i didnt give it much thought a few days later i had my tacoma in the shop for an oil change and the dealer had a fairly basic highlander with a 4cylinder and front wheel drive on the lot with the doubts about the vue in my mind i took the highlander for a test drive i was sold instantly the 4cylinder has plenty of lowend torque and it feels like the toyota engineers have spaced the gear ratios perfectly i did not drive the v6 but we have a nissan maxima so i know what a v6 feels like if you are considering the highlander you owe it to yourself to test drive the 4cylinder my gas mileage so far has been around 23 mpg in city driving much better than the 15 i was getting from my tacoma the highlander is much bigger inside than anything else in the miniute class although i dont think the highlander is considered a miniute ive found the seats to be comfortable the ride and steering exceptionally stable and solid far superior to the vue the overall fit and finish is standard toyota abs disk brakes power mirrors and door locks and cruise are all standard granted even with all that our model is still a little spartan but this is a utility vehicle for us not a badge of conspicuous consumption i would have to agree that a 35k loaded highlander might not stack up well against other competition in that price range but if you can live without a burled mahogany dashboard and heated seats and are unimpressed with the miniute competition hunt around and see if you can find a basemodel highlander fyidont expect to get much off the sticker
auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander rt001 33600.0 1008028800 5.0 i recently purchased a 2002 toyota highlander limited after extensive comparison shopping and had several different experiences with toyota dealers in st louis we are a mid size market and i visited six different toyota dealers this was out of necessity as i encountered some real problems with some dealers new in 2001 the highlander is considered a cuv rather than an suv this means crossover utility vehicle it is based on the frame of a toyota camry rather than on a truck frame this results in less offroad capability but toyota has zeroed in on people like me one kid to tow and an aversion to minivans so the highlander is marketed as a minivan alternative with some offroad capability which is fine with me because ill never be offroad on purpose the highlander comes in two basic packages with some 2 and awd no matter what they tell you made in japan in the same plant as the lexus rx300 and four inches longer the car is not a made to order kind they come with either a 4 or 6 cylinder engine and in either 2 or all wheel drive awd toyota is betting on most people wanting the 6 cyl awd i did and from there your options are limited to the basic package cloth seats basic stereo etc or the limited package leather premium cd changer sunroof vehicle skid control auto climate control towing package etc you may be able to negotiate certain options away like a auto dimming mirror privacy glass is standard on the limited but the base package will be the same i found this through painful experience when i tried to build my own back to the dealership back in june we test drove the jeep grand cherokee dodge durango mazda tribute hyundai santa fe and honda crv they were all blending together until we stopped and drove the highlander it was an instant difference in drive the others were bumpy and rough like trucks the highlander was smooth and even you know like a camry having never heard of the highlander and with bebby still a few months off i went to research mode as a new model there was no reliability history but heyits a toyota quite a bit a reading and several months later we headed back to negotiate the somewhat shocking mspr for a limited of around 35000 what i found out floored me the highlander had taken off in sales and the dealership was backordered they were now selling vehicles they were scheduled to get from the factory add in two months to get it to the usmidwest youre talking a serious wait but that wasnt the kicker when i asked what the dealership was selling the car for the salesman looked at me with a straight face and said well the sticker price and the implication was clear from his manner if you dont want it for that someone else will so we moved on to another dealership the answers were the same pretty much all around these are popular we can get msrp so we will thanks for stopping by finally i found a couple that seemed at least somewhat negotiable so i sat down with a salesman from a dealership about 40 miles from my house and i played some numbers off him from another dealership in the end i got a limited highlander loaded msrp 35500 for about 33600 i waited four weeks for one that was on a sloowww boat from china or japan if you like but the wait was worth it the car is huge inside the back and passenger seat lay flat giving you like 80 feet of inside cargo space the dash is laid out naturally with the gear shifter in the bottom center on top of a nicely redesigned and new for 2002 standard center console the ride is everything i remembered it to be quiet and smooth handling is crisp with even braking road noise is at a minimum and cabin noise is nonexistent no pops squeaks or groans yet the car seat is perfect for the height of the car and we all fit very comfortably my only option gripe is a manual passenger seat for that kind of money i would expect a power seat consumer reports now gives the highlander a recommended rating and i can see why the quality name like toyota with lexus feel makes a nice ride for someone suffering minivan aversion but shop around the popularity of the car is making some dealers gouge and people are paying so take some time and get the best price for the car and be prepared to wait if they cant do a dealertrade its worth the wait happy driving

auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander gta_support 30520.0 1073088000 4.0 i leased the 2002 toyota highlander v6 package b and never looked back the car handles well for an suv and rides in comfort however one must realize that the highlander and its cousin lexus rx300 are built on the toyota camry platform which essentially means you are riding in a sedan not a pickup let me explain before the highlander i had a 99 toyota 4runner a real suv built on a pickup platform it was rugged and a little underpowered with only 183hp but on positive side it would handle any curb i threw at it with the highlander i wouldnt recommend hitting a curb over 2mph in fact as time goes on the highlander brings less enjoyment and more disappointment comfort after riding a rugged 4runner the highlander was a welcoming sight but as time passes the suspension is starting to give in i didnt have to make any repairs yetas toyotas superb track record has yet to let me down with 2 suvs thus far but after hitting one too many curbs potholes not on purpose of course it seems as though the highlander is not as pleasing as it once was not only is the suspension less comfortable it makes an occasional squeak on an occasional bump in the road engine the engine is great but with time it feels more and more underpowered plus with a leased vehicle i am not afraid to say that i often push this engine to its limits full throttle to my highlander is as familiar as red lights that is not to say that i do not take care of my car but it being a lease i can afford to do things other owners would never consider once again as time passes the engine is not producing the healthy roar it ones did instead when it idles there is more noise coming from the engine i should also mention while starting up the engine i notice a little bit of lag nothing to worry about according to my friend who is a mechanic the v6 accelerates from 0 to 60 in around 85 seconds but not without considerable effort room there is plenty of room up front and in the back the cargo area is large enough to fit regular grocery bagsboxes if extra space is required one can always put down the back seats as they fold perfectly flat the driver seat is electronically adjustable 8way and the frontpassenger seat is adjusted manually one important thing to note the seats do not have a memory function meaning multiple drivers will need to adjust their seats every time they enter the vehicle thankfully my son is exactly my height hence we rarely touch the seat mirror settings looks back in 2002 this car seemed handsome cute even but with the introduction of the new generation suvs namely infiniti fx vw toureg etc i reconsider and contemplate my previous judgment about the toyota highlander the highlander doesnt stand out in looks as much as id like it almost seems to blend in with the rest of the pack underplaying its true valueprice the competition dont be fooled the honda pilot is a direct competitor but is no better than the highlander my friend owns one of these pilots and even with 240hp under his hood my highlander is much more exuberant in acceleration runs because it weights much much less the pilot features a 3rd row but so does the new 04 highlander other than that these are very similar vehicles pilot vs highlander without a clearcut winner other rugged suvs like the pathfinder or 4runner for that matter are in a whole different class they are built on a pickup trucks platform and should not be compared with sedan based suvs ex highlander there are other compact suvs like the rav4 crv from honda tribute from mazda ford but again they are from a different segment often much smaller in size and come with a smaller engine should you get a highlander by all means yes this is a great sedanerrrcross over suv but the lesson to be learned here it might be labeled as an suv but that doesnt mean u can treat it like one in fact the highlander is almost as delicate as a sedan demanding care while driving namely avoiding potholes curbs and slow pedestrians just kidding as for my next suv 200506 when the lease on my highlander will mature i am considering the infiniti fx for its style and power train 280hp with the v6 and 315hp with the v8 the highlander is a great utility vehicle but nothing really special to separate it from the ever growing segment i hope you enjoyed my review and thanks for reading

auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander wren207 19000.0 1138924800 3.0 i bought the suv for the carlike handling and the ability to be comfortable traveling a lot it does handle very well for an suv but the comfort isnt what i thought it would be the controls are easy to use and within reach and the storage is plentiful and within reach of the driver however the seat isnt as comfortable as i have had in past toyotas the lumbar support or lack there of leaves a lot to be desired i have had my highlander for almost 3 years and my two biggest complaints are 1the rattling noises the glove box and the truck hatch rattle the dealership said it is typical for suvs unfortunately there is no way to tighten whatever has become loose 2 the cup holders in the back seat are in the door are a potential disaster if one of the kids leaves a half full can of soda in the door and slams it shut soda goes everywhere as for maintenance there has been very little for concern here the only and i mean only problem i have had is the check engine light came on because of a bad emissions sensor overall i would say that i am disappointed with it because i expected more from a toyota but compared to other suvs in its class it is better than average update we traded in this highlander for 8500 with a badly dented rear bumper and over 102000 miles wowgreat resale value
auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander puertafin 24000.0 1033862400 5.0 after wrecking my last vehicle i was forced into the wonderful world of car buyers i knew i wanted a toyota because ive had two in the past and my family has had an additional 3 so the question was what kind of toyota since i now own a house a camry was not an option need room to haul house stuff i had seen a few highlanders on the road but didnt really consider them because i assumed they were expensive because they looked like the sequoias i figured i would get a new 4runner until i saw the prices wow i simply could not afford anything 30 just when i thought i was going to be stuck with the too small rav 4 someone told me the highlanders were less expensive than the 4runners but more than the rav 4 i was surprised because the highlander had a look of luxury one test drive and i was hooked roomy good visibility responsive brakes and great cockpit area if i have any complaints at all in the one month ive had my highlander it is only that their idea of a cup holder is a small storage area in the center console but in the big picture who cares this vehicle will suit my needs and even though i bought the most basic package available there are plenty of upgrades if you wish anyone who needs an all around roomy reliable suv with a classy feel will not be disappointed
auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander jstroud 25500.0 1023580800 5.0 we have an infant and needed a car or suv that had enough room for 2 adults and a baby seat since i learned many years ago about quality and reliability as an engineer i narrowed my choices to only toyotas or hondas i also wanted a new car our 1st choice would have been a station wagon like the volvo but toyota and honda do not currently make one we next checked out the toyota matrix i liked it a lot but my wife convinced me it would not have enough room with the baby seat in the back seat she was right we ruled out minivans because we didnt want to fall into the trap of having the family car syndrome we next looked at the honda crv and we were about to buy it until i found out that the toyota highlander is very similar but has about an extra inch or two of leg room for the front seats since i am also 6 3 this was a big factor i felt that with the crv i was just a little cramped in the front with the seat all the way back not too cramped but enough that i would get uncomfortable on a long journey so we test drove two highlanders they both were excellent a six cylinder and a four cylinder i really wanted a four cylinder because it gets better gas mileage so i researched the heck out the 4 cylinder before driving it the 4 cylinder engine was designed specifically for the highlander and it has 155 horsepower and is 24 liters all the reviews were very positive and indicated that it had sufficient power some people made blanket statements that they recommended the 6 cylinder but stated no valid reasons why or indicated that they test drove the 4 cylinder to back up their statements i read one review from a guy in atlanta that stated he had no problem going onto highways with the 4 cylinder highlander the only valid reason against a 4 cylinder is if you plan on going up and down steep hills with a lot of weight in the car well when i test drove the 4 cylinder 2 wheel drive i could not believe the power i drove onto highways back roads main roads and the acceleration and breaking were excellent i even had to pull off and open the hood to make sure it was a 4 cylinder i tested the acceleration by going onto roads with oncoming cars approaching at 50 mph and i had no problems at all well we ended up buying the 4 cylinder highlander 2 wheel drive and we love it it has plenty of room when im driving and have my seat all the way back my wife sitting behind me and baby in car seat are quite comfortable same with me in the back and the wife driving the suv drives very smoothly just like a car it is built on the camry frame we opted not to get the options with the power seat seemed like an unnecessary expense the only caveat is that you really do not have a choice with many of the options for example all highlanders come shipped to the us with 500 alloy wheel option if you dont want that option you would have to custom order a highlander from the toyota this i was told would take 6 months because the suv would have to come from japan there were many other nuances like this that pretty much forces you to get preselected options i highly recommend the car we are extremely happy with it
auto_Make-2002_Toyota_Highlander azoth7 28500.0 1024963200 5.0 i have owned a large variety of vehicles over the years i have been driving since 1961 and my new highlander really is among the very best i took delivery of it in tucson arizona and immediately put over 2000 miles on it driving back to my home in mexico except for two quibblesno reasonable place to put my cell phone and a ventilation fan that is too loudthe vehicle is just wonderful i am 62 tall and this is the first vehicle i have owned for yearsthe last was a 1976 dodge pickupin which i do not have to put the drivers seat back as far as it will go for comfort with the seat in an intermediate position i have lots of room to stretch my legs the seat is also wide enough for real comfort and well shaped and padded i have the eightway power seat and this provides a large range of adjustments including adjustable lumbar support which is really helpful on a long drive even after an eight hour stint i felt relaxed and completely uncramped the handling of this vehicle is very good i say this as an owner and driver of several excellent sports cars including a corvette and a triumph naturally the highlander is no sports car and should not be driven over 80 or 85 mph in my opinion but for an suv it corners very well feels stable and capable and has just enough isolation from the road without feeling mushy or spongy the engine and transmission are a real delight there is ready torque at all engine speeds so that the highlander gets off the line very well and is also ready to pass at highway speeds up and downshifts are smooth and practically transparent the overdrive defeat button is a real plus i used it often on my drive the 4wd system works well i drove off the road right into deep sand with no loss of traction at all gas mileage was good i got 22 mpg overall on my 2000 trip this might improve slightly when the vehicle is fully broken in my highlander is not the limited model instead i bought the standard model with some options the preferred package which gives the power drivers seat the convenience package which gives remote control entry and the appearance package which gives alloy wheels and tinted glass then i added aftermarket leather and a great set of aftermarket speakers to the stereo system bought this way the vehicle cost about 2000 less than the limited model and is better in two ways the aftermarket leather is much better than the factory leather especially since all the surfaces are real leather not just the seating surfaces as in the factory version and the 300 stereo speakers i put in the front doors are very much better than the jbls in the limited system what the limited has that i did not get this way are fog lamps automatic climate control rear spoiler i highly recommend going this way unless you must have the climate controlobviously fog lamps can be added if you like and will not cost 2000 in my opinion this vehicle is the best of all the suvs and is better than the more expensive lexus version which i did test drive because it handles better and has more interior room also is better looking to my eye if you are near tucson joe micoletti at precision toyota of tucson arizona sold me this vehicle and dealing with him was a pleasurealso he gave me a super price good luck robert

us a huge suv was not needed we settled in on the toyota highlander after reading many favorable reviews on epinions and elsewhere the highlander is a sister to the lexus rx but costs 8k12k less depending on options the driveline is from the camry so you know going in that it will be smooth and reliable the highlander is not a big vehicle in fact it is the same length as the honda accord we replaced this is great news if you need a vehicle to haul that occasional big box or load of plants from the store but dont want to fill your garage with something overly big this fit our needs although those with kids may want something bigger and with a third seat which is not available in the highlander compared to the lexus the highlander has slightly more cargo room due to its squared off back end the rear seats fold completely flat giving plenty of storage unfortunately the rear door glass does not open so the hatch will need to be left ajar or open for really long items like boards and such the highlanders car based chassis means that it does not require a ladder to get in but it sits higher than a minivan by comparison the ride is smooth not quite as much as its camry cousin but worlds ahead of truck based vehicles like the explorer blazer and others even over rough roads you will never be punished but the ride is somewhat firm this is needed to provide stability due to the high center of gravity our highlander is equipped with the 220hp v6 and front wheel drive we considered the awd option but in our area we only get snow once or twice a season and could not justify the cost and weight penalties acceleration with the v6 is brisk not neck snapping but more than adequate for passing and merging onto freeways i have not driven a 4 cylinder highlander for comparison but wonder if the four may be taxed too much by the weight of the vehicle the automatic shifts smoothly as one would expect from the camry heritage up front creature comforts abound for 2002 a front console became standard with plenty of storage as in the rx the shifter comes out of the bottom of the dash and takes some getting used to on first glance it appears to be at the top of the console but it is not it does not really look weird it has a weird feel to it until you become accustomed the seats in our limited trimmed in leather are comfortable and have fold down armrests the gauges are very small however and somewhat difficult to see for some inexplicable reason toyota neglected to put any controls for the radio cruise and trip computer on the steering wheel even our 4 year old honda had them and once you have them you will really miss them i find myself still thumbing the side of the steering wheel when i want to adjust the radio volume toyota blew it on this one to further aggravate the climate control knob and volume knob are similar in shape and right above each other on the dash so you will likely turn the wrong one frequently ive seen this noted by other reviewers too also by not having the cruise controls on the steering wheel this necessitates an additional stalk right below the wiper stalk which makes things more cluttered than need be it is partially hidden by the wheel fit and finish in true toyota tradition are first rate but the dealership experience was nothing to brag about and certainly not appropriate for a purchase in excess of 30k the good news is that now that the highlander has been around awhile prices are coming down and you should be able to buy one for 300 or so over invoice maybe less if you are a tough negotiator we find that the highlander is just enough suv and should be considered by many buyers that unnecessarily buy a huge gas guzzler with ponderous handling and a rough ride also its size will still leave you with enough room in the garage for a few other things if you have more than 2 kids on board you will probably want something bigger but for the masses the highlander provides a superb blend of usefulness ride and comfort that you can happily live with on a daily basis update may 2003 our highlander just passed its one year birthday and now has 10000 miles it has been a great vehicle with no problems the only trips to the dealer have been for scheduled oil changes and to have the sensor on the autoheadlamp feature adjusted i have not checked the gas mileage but it seems to be very reasonable and not fuel hungry my only complaints after a year of ownership are the same as above no radio controls on the steering wheel and the fixed back window ive needed to haul a few long items like trees from the nursery and had to either leave the rear door completely open or secure it with bungee cords are you listening toyota i still recommend the highlander as a comfortable capable vehicle it will reward the owner with suv convenience but without being overly ponderous to handle park or a gas guzzler

auto_Make-1997_Mercury_Tracer mgs2006 14582.0 1196467200 4.0 being poor and in college is pretty normal throughout the us when i was in college all i could afford was a 1997 tracer this car is pretty decent and is a step up from the ford escort or aspire which is in the same price range as this car sure it doesnt look the coolestbut this car if treated right will never die i bought this vehicle brand new back in 1996 as a 1997 model with 3 miles on it 11 years later this vehicle is still in my family with 180000 miles on it and still running stronger than ever this fact alone surprises me seeing as how this vehicle is one of fordmercurys cheapest models the reliability is amazing the only things that have gone wrong with this car was just regular maintenance and repairs anyways the interior of this car is a bit odd the dashboard has the radio and climate controls built together in this oval shaped nightmare thats cheaply made and difficult to control the radio is horrible although you can get a cd player put in if you buy the adapter which is around 80 dollars the speakers are cheap which is expected in such a cheap car the air conditioning is amazing and has never needed recharged since its purchase in 1996 and still blows cold the seats arent very comfortable they are hard and small so for me long trips is out of the question the car drives excellent though responsive engine that provides adequate acceleration for being so small great gas mileage averaging around 31 mpg in the city overall its a good car the reliability is excellent and the build quality is good becuase it has held up for all of these years without any problems

auto_Make-1997_Mercury_Tracer megdawg Aprox12000 1011312000 4.0 i got this car when i was in college because i liked how it drove and it was inexpensive enough that i could make the car payments it has done just that any rational person should know by looking at the price that its not going to drive like a bonneville or an explorer or even a taurus its not made to do that its made to be safe and inexpensive i have had very few problems with it the blower on the heater stopped working and the starter went out both problems were far less to fix than the difference i would be paying had i bought any of the other cars i looked at after 4 12 years and almost paid off i know ill be able to go a few years without car payments and very few problems the car is big enough to fit 4 adults comfortably and 5 fairly easily trunk space has never been a problem i mean its not a minivan but thats not what im looking for the biggest problem has been the touchy accelerator and even that is only a problem when i let other people drive my car it is pretty easy to adjust to and has never made me fear for my safety

with the car so far i bought it to replace my poorly aging 89 chrysler lebaron convertible that was falling apart at a seemingly faster rate everytime i drove it im a poor working college student who needed something inexpensive to buy insure fuel maintain and repair luckily for me i had the opportunity to buy a 97 mercury tracer ls wagon from a family friend the car was a oneowner with 34k miles and she sold it to me for a great price i did some research on the 97 tracerescort and got the impression it was a dependable walletfriendly car so i bought it im extremely happy i bought the car im a person with reasonable expectations in car ownership i know that the tracer is a subcompact economy car so im not dissapointed that it is a bit unrefined or cramped for passengers 6 i base my judgements of the car compared with other economy cars ive owned or at least driven i love the engine in this car it vibrates a bit too much at idle but nothing excessive or unreasonable in a small cheap car its just my personal taste i suppose the engine also seems to be a bit fuel thirsty granted im averaging 2831mpg in a mix of city and highway driving but i expected better i was achieving 2729mpg in my much older and heavier 89 chrysler lebaron convertible so you could say im a little dissapointed with the fuel economy but any increase in fuel economy is welcome ill be driving to florida for spring break in a couple weeks im anxious to see what kind of fuel economy ill get doing nothing but highway travel the engine runs very smoothly and sounds great for a small 4cyl engine its not buzzy sounding like so many 4cyl economy cars its extremely easy to do a tuneups on the engine it cost me about 35 in parts and took about a half hour changing the air filter is a pain in the butt though because of the way the filter housing is designed the design definitely leaves room for improvement even when the guy at the quicklube center tried to check my air filter he struggled with it too i finally told him dont worry about it fearing hed break something the engine feels weak on hills but it takes off very quickly when extra power is needed for passing merging or just trying to take off like a bat out of hell the power is there one lovely aspect of this car is that the engine doesnt get tremendously louder when revved high some economy cars even larger cars flatout scream when they are pushed hard the tracerescort doesnt from all the research i did before buying the car it sounds like the autoamtic transmissions in these cars are typically long lasting and problemfree ive owned several vehicles and have never had any transmission failures thankfully i hope this car continues the trend having such low mileage though and considering how well i maintain my cars i expect itll last a long time in modest acceleration the transmission shifts very smoothly in moderate acceleration keeping up with traffic the transmission shifts very abruptly especially into 3rd gear its annoying but not clunky enough to really annoy me its noticeable is all dury hard acceleration the car shifts very smoothly going from an old car with a hydraulic 3speed automatic to a modern electronic 4speed automatic ive had to adjust my driving style driving the tracer like i drove my lebaron caused the transmission to constantly upshift and downshift this annoyed me after getting used to the shift patters of the transmission though ive learned when to be more gentle on the gas to keep it from needlessly downshifting i think the lockup torque converter engages and releases too early this causes what feels like the transmission shifting again learning how it operates ive finetuned my throttle foot to accomodate the only time it annoys me now is when im in a hurry and the transmission is constantly engaging and disengaging gears this seems to be the norm with modern 4cyl powered cars though the car feels well put together solid the dashboard seems to have fits of squeaky creakiness some days other days there isnt a peep strange but i assume it has more to do with the temperature and the plastics and vinyls expanding and contracting overall though it feels like a solid little car the steering is very responsive and precise the steering is perfect for my taste its not overboosted nor underboosted its not overly vague nor overly touchy just right for me the brakes are pretty darn good overall the pedal feel is firm and not too spongy the brakes are very strong no matter how fast you are going thanks to stupid people that like to cut me off going 80mph ive had to slam my breaks on a couple times on the freeway to avoid being hit and the brakes immediately lockedup my particular tracer doesnt have abs although it was an option i have some experience with extreme driving closed course so i know how to handle a car with without abs its not an issue for me my point being that the brakes on this car are very strong and responsive the ride and handling are a nice balance the car rides in a firm stable manner without being terribly harsh or jarring i really like the way the car rides actually economy car suspension has come a long way in 20yrs the handles well it grips the road excellently even in emergency situations just a few nights ago while traveling down the highway at 70mph an animal darted out in front of me i swerved quickly to avoid hitting it and the car never lost control or traction i was really impressed there is noticeable body lean in hard cornering and maneuvers though overall a nice riding and stable economy car im 59 155lbs and the car fits me perfectly in terms of size i dont feel the least bit cramped in this car even sitting in the back seat with the front seat all the way back i fit very comfortably if you are a supersized person you wont fit well in this car if you are of small or average stature you will fit nicely having my boss whos over 6 and over 200lbs sit in the front seat and a coworker sitting in the backseat they were very cramped i was a little embarrassed actually the seat comfort up front is best described as firm at first i thought what uncomfortable seats my lebaon had very plush bucket seats so the seats in the tracer took some getting used to now 2 months later i actually prefer the seats in the tracer over those in my lebaron they are shaped much better for comfort even though they are harder ive noticed my bad back is in a lot less pain driving around in the tracer as well the rear seats arent quite as shapely as the front seats and are just as firm so they arent quite as comfortable they do their job though for carrying passengers short distances in terms of interior noise for an older economy car its really not bad the engine noise really isnt bad at all for what ive experienced in other cars there is no engine noise on the highway until you get over 70mph and then its only slight the wind noise isnt bad at all either there seems to be a small airleak in my drivers door window from though because i hear an annoying whistling at highway speeds the worst interior noise is road noise especially from the rear tires it is loud i dont hear any road noise from the front tires just the rear tires the rear tires are the originals to the car so they may simply need replacing overall interior noise isnt bad though for a cheap economy car ive definitely experienced worse so far problems have been minimal and mostly due to age the brake light switch broke because the plastic was so old and brittle it simply snapped it was a cheap and easy repair the airbag light occationally comes on when i start the car if i shut the car off and restart it then the light doesnt reilluminate kinda strange and i think its defect related something related to the steering components makes a loud creaking noise whenver i turn the steering wheel sharply in either directly while pulling into a parking space or backing out of one i assume it to be either something related to the cv joints or tierods perhaps it doesnt affect the steering at all though so im not worrying about it just yet the car only has 38k miles as of 21308 and i expect to get a lot of mileage out of this car i love it update 22508 39k miles having the tires rotated seems to have taken care of the loud rear tire noise its still noticeable but much quieter now update 31008 42k miles i recently got back from my spring break trip to florida traveling down there and back my lower back cramped up after only a couple of hours of driving i have a bad back so other tracerescort owners may not have the same experience as me i forgot to keep track of the fuel economy on the way down but on the way back home the car averaged 35mpg thats ok but i was hoping for closer to 40mpg its just a spartan economy car after all and i know other economy cars are capable of such figures these cars are rather thirsty for some reason i dont want to complain too much though because its still an improvement over my last car an 89 lebaron convertible update 82008 50k miles the car is still great no new problems to report the creaky sounds coming from the front end when i turn havent gotten any worse ive been keeping a log of my fuel economy for every tank since i bought the car last december and im averaging 31mpg in mixed cityhwy driving im pleased with this figure just to test how much the fuel economy drops with ac usage i filled my tank and ran the ac constantly until my next fillup i was shocked how much the fuel economy dropped i only averaged 27mpg considering on each tank i average 3031mpg i was very disappointed now that i know this i only use the ac on unbearably hot days during my hour long commute to and from school back in february i installed 4 polk audio db series speakers and a pioneer cd player ford does not offer an indash cd player for this car so you have no choice but an aftermarket unit as a result you have to also replace the entire oval control pod for the hvac and stereo system since they are integrated into the same pod the aftermarket pods look awfully cheap and do not fit properly if you are going to put a cd player in this car pay someone to do it its a big hassle now that its been in the car several months and getting plenty of use i can say the cd and speaker upgrade made a huge difference glad i upgraded update 121708the car currently has 57k miles and is still running great nbspone 30 degree night last week my low coolant warning light came on nbspi pulled over and checked the coolant level nbspit was fine nbspso i shut the car off and restarted it thinking it might be the same buggery that causes my airbag light to come on for no reason nbspthere seems to be some electrical gremlins with these warning lights nbspnot a big deal since this only happens once every few months nbspbeside this shes still been very dependable nbspi complained in my original review about only averaging 31mpg nbspi borrowed my moms 95 volvo 940 nonturbo for a couple of weeks nbspwith the same driving i do to school and work i only averaged 23mpg nbspi guess my car is actually quite a fuel miser after auto_Make-1997_Mercury_Tracer luvmycar 13000.0 1081382400 4.0 i have had my tracer for the past 67 years it has 120k miles on it the only problem i have had with it was about 2000 miles ago i got a new muffler and ive gone through a couple sets of break pads but i drive in traffic jams a lot so that is a given i loved this car even though it had touchy gas pedals and not the most comfy seats it was great on gas and had decent acceleration it was definitely not a luxury car but for the 13000 bucks i bought it for 7 years ago it has been extremely reliable and worth the money my grandmother passed away and i now drive her new car i am very sad to sell my tracer but itll make someone as happy as me
auto_Make-2003_Lexus_RX_300 jojoswinger 35000.0 1041811200 3.0 my wife and i decided to lease the lexus because in 39 months we may need a minivan if kid number 2 enters our life if not then a smaller car will work for us much better in the city we debated over getting a wagon but the wagons were not getting much better mileage it amazes me that fuel efficiency is worse than it was ten years ago given that there are not any hybrid wagons or suvs worth considering we went for luxury the lexus 300 rx feels nice and rides like a charm i forget i am driving because it is very quiet and the sound system is pointed right at me yes the little speakers are cute when you first see them but they are very annoying visually after a while and the speaker sound hits you so good that it makes it difficult to concentrate on the road stupid features the mirror has a compass on there that is also very distrracting for drivers i am surprised that got approved because it does not feel safe luckily a small battery behind the mirror keeps it on so it was easy to disengage this feature the cupholders seem like an afterthought no matter what size cup you put there it is not stable and it gets in the way of the automatic shifter the cup holders for passengers are under the drivers elbow i am sorry but if someone is grabbing something below my elbow when i am driving i will be annoyed the cupholders flunk here the driver and passenger armrests are smaller than any movie theatre you will ever visit it does retract for more movement which is nice but i wish i could take out the rear passenger cupholders and have an armrest that actually keeps my elbow from falling off the retracting center rear seat shoulder strap with locking mechanism was designed for babyseats but it is useless for that purpose the california highway patrol does not recommend using the locking feature for car seats the top will continuously go in more eventually capsizing the car seat and making it dangerous for the baby the metal lockring device that comes with most car seats will be useful for making use of the waist belt for all the support for the carseat i hope you find this very helpful for whatever car you have and please pass this info along most manufactures have not updated their materials road trips for long rides the seats are very comfortable but both my wife and i were bruised by the interior molding in the center the edges could have been more contoured to fit the side of a persons leg and knee we had to wedge a diaper between our right knee and the panel to make the 400 mile trip it was very frustrating because we got this car for road trips and my long business trips more than having a city car storage storage is a problem i knew it from the start but my wife thought she could deal with a smaller trunk than the 4runner we had before if you are 511 or taller you will constantly bang your head on the rear hatch door when it is open i have cursed the car out more times than i would like to admit of course a few chuckles are heard in the parking lots i am a freakin comedian i recommend getting a rack for the top of the car this will be fine for me but my wife is short so accessible storage is minimal get the trailer hitch we asked for the hitch but since we were so rushed when we got home with the car i noticed there was no trailer hitch they were so focused on getting us the right color and i wanted to make sure the car was driving fine service all i can say is that the biggest sleazebags i have met were at lexus i have never met a female sleazebag before going to this dealership in cerritos we spoke to one salesman and he was slick and rushed us once we got on the lot we came back later and he was busy so this other salesman let us test drive again this slimey salesguy is doing all the clich sales pitches as he drives off the lot i ask if he is going to test drive this for us and he drives 5 blocks to a dark frontage road i ask what he is doing and he said we are test driving i demanded that we go back to the lot that is when i went to the bathroom and heard him and a saleswoman trash talk us and other customers why did we buy well my wife loved it and it is a toyota with a facelift and a boobjob she drives the car more and she wanted a safe car for our new baby this car is very safe and our baby sleeps better in the back without the bumps from the 4runner also if you like the controls of a toyota then this could be a nice upgrade next time we go german
auto_Make-2003_Lexus_RX_300 senator33 39500.0 1050192000 4.0 leased our rx300 with local longdistance and cargo hauling in mind the cargo is a 34size string bass for playing in local symphony orchestras plus other gigs the rear seats lower flush and allow easy loading and removal cargo tie rings allow restraining straps for things such as expensive instruments and other stuff you dont want flying about in an emergency like other lexus products the rx300 oozes quality in its fit and finish we find the vehicle quite comfortable though occasionally wish for a 6way adjustable passenger seat such as is on our lexus ls 400 ride is very smooth since the rx300 is a carbased rather than truck based suv power is more than adequate from the fwd 6cylinder engine handling is excellent and surefooted even in south florida monsoons because of frontwheel drive the turning circle is very wide in comparison to the ls 400 and other rearwheel drive cars we have owned takes a couple of turns and backups to enter a perpendicular parking space parallel parking is not as difficult dealer service has been excellent so far at nearly 40000 we found the rx300 rather pricey compared with other comparable models but chose it for the above attributes plus brand loyalty this is our third lexus
auto_Make-2003_Lexus_RX_300 zea14 35000.0 1183593600 5.0 we love this car were both on the shorter side so this car fits us like a glove it drives very smooth weve had very few service issues and after 4 years the car still looks like new and we get compliments all the time we bought this one used at the dealer in beverly hills it was dark blue with light blue 2 tone paint which we really wanted and only had 10000 miles the 2004s were just out but we preferred the lay out of the 03 we traded in a bmw m3 thats how much we loved this car the dealership was just ok not as snooty as we expected and the saleswoman was kinda odd but we were happy with the deal since we lived in orange county we knew our closest service dealer would be westminster they couldnt be better every oil change we get a free loaner of our choice we had a pulsing in the brakes once and they put new brakes all the way around no charge the waiting area is like no other a gift shop a boutique free breakfast items like fruit and bagels and sandwiches at lunch time fresh baked cookies too and everyone is very nice a couple years later we had the car totally detailed inside and out 100 you cant beat loyalty the only drawbacks to the car are the gas cap release is on the floor under the drivers floormat and the cupholders arent very sturdy due to the adjustable springarm design everything on the car has held up very well with only a tiny piece of the passenger side carpet coming loose i think its pulled away from the holddown under the doorsill weve driven this car 3 times with over 15000 miles cross country including one trip last year with the cats while driving through a tornado in st louis each time was a dream even in the tornado the car stayed steady to the road i feel very safe and protected in my rx300 compared to my mustang or pickup if you have one and need new tires we highly recommend the goodyear fortera triple threads they are awesome they made a great car even better we recently took a drive through the smokey mountains of tennessee and went off roading to see how she really handled what an amazing experience she took the gravel and hills and twists and turns like a real champ gas mileage has been a pretty consistant 19 mpg but has increased to 20 with a kn airfilter upgrade if i ever wanted a new suv id buy another lexus and theyve made some nice changes to the newer models like an automatic hatch release and the new hybrid is a great ride but i just love this little baby its a part of our family and has taken us so many wonderful places
